History of Microneedling
- 1995: Dr. Desmond Fernandes, a South African plastic surgeon, is credited with the development of early microneedling techniques using hypodermic needles to treat wrinkles and scars.
- Early 2000s: The development of "dermarollers" made the procedure more accessible and began producing clinical results that were predictable and reproduceable.
- 2010s: Mechanized, powered microneedling pens provided faster production of more microchannels, but were limited in application due to the tissue trauma associated with the scratching, tearing and avulsions created as the needles were dragged across the skin.
